Job description: The laboratory of Dr. Jotham Suez at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health seeks to recruit a Sr. Research Data Analyst with extensive experience analyzing biological data in a research environment, with an emphasis on microbiome analysis. We are a hybrid experimental/computational team utilizing big data (metagenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) to study the microbiome and virome in human health and disease. In this position, you will work collaboratively with members of the Suez Lab to address pressing questions at the intersection of basic sciences and public health. This will include analyzing large-scale datasets using advanced bioinformatic tools, developing and implementing novel computational approaches for data analysis, interpreting and presenting complex biological data to drive discovery, as well as mentoring and advising on statistical and computational aspects of experimental design. You will have the opportunity to lead independent, computationally focused projects. You should possess a degree in a relevant subject with an extensive analytical component (e.g., bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, mathematics) and an established track record (publications, preprints) in microbiome research.   • Provide bioinformatics expertise to help Suez Lab scientists achieve their research objectives.
  • Provide expertise to inform on the experimental and analytical design process.
  • Analyze complex datasets using a wide range of biological resources and bioinformatic methods.
  • Apply analytical expertise to help scientists interpret results and make research decisions.
  • Work independently at all points of the data analysis workflow.
  • Participate in mentoring Suez Lab members by sharing expertise and experience.
  • Participate in the writing of grants and research proposals.
  • Participate in manuscript preparation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Molecular Biology, Mathematics or relevant discipline with an extensive analytical component and an established track record (publications, preprints) in microbiome research.
  • One year of related experience with varied types of high-throughput sequencing data and analysis, in particular microbiome shotgun metagenomics.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Experience with any of the following, virome profiling, packages for identification of antimicrobial resistance in metagenomic datasets, transcriptomics and meta transcriptomics, metabolomics.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.
